hilarious - This is a very funny film. It is set during the war and sees a young Catherine Deneuve as Marie try to fight off the advances of 2 different men while still married to her husband. There humour is both slapstick and witty. It is a joy to watch and so is Deneuve, who it is good to see do comedy very well. The war is treated with humour but is in no way dismissive. The DVD has optional english subtitles, some Deneuve trailers such as My favourite Season, Pola X, Place Vendome and Umbrellas of Cherbourg, and some links to Deneuve site and filmographies. The subtitles are in yellow and the film black and white. While the extras may be sparce, it is worth getting just for the film. Very funny and good for fans of Deneuve.
Brilliantly funny early stunning Deneuve - La Vie De Chateau (UK: A Matter of Resistance) is stunning early Deneuve in a brilliantly funny role with the excellent Philippe Noiret. Directed by Rappeneau (Cyrano) who made most of his films with Deneuve - usually comedies like LE SAUVAGE (US: Lovers Like Us) with Yves Montand. Not to be missed!
